Being the extended wheelbase model and topping out at almost 4500 pounds my Cadillac weighs about the same as the average car nowadays but when the new cars in 2025 weigh only 1500 pounds and the trucks about 2000 will they fear my Cadillac? It's aluminum engine blocks with iron heads. They started building this engine in 1982. It was a fiasco, that 4.1 liter engine. In 1993 the Eldorado started using the Northstar engine, which is aluminum- the block and heads. They think they finally got things right, but engineered a "limp-home" feature when the cooling system might fail and overheat the engine, which you can bet would be destroyed by excess heat. That limping was supposed to prvent destruction or minimise it.



GM has been cutting their own throats building one aluminum engine or another since 1963, with the Olds Jetfire/ F85. The turbo versions would blow up all the time. The non turbos would just eat themselves if something as mundane as a burst radiator hose occurred. Yeah, aluminum is as good as a syphilytic prostitute with HIV, as an engine building material. Remember the Chevy Vega?



Want an Eldorado? Get a 1964. That was a real Cadillac. For a first car it is the worst choice you can make. Not to buy, but to maintain. Every part is big and expensive and very hard to work on. Your first car should be something cheap and easy to fix and you aren't going to keep but for a couple of years. First cars always take the most abuse. After you learn how to take good care of a car and have some money to do that, reach for something more premium.

They are supposed to be recalibrate after replacement but many people have not had issues not recalibrating them.

You can get the VIN number from the car and call a Cadillac dealer's service department, and their GM Dealerworld system will tell them if the car has StabiliTrak, or not.



Traction Control was standard on the 2005 CTS, but StabiliTrak was not, and the only thing that's an outside indicator of StabiliTrak are the factory 17 inch wheels included as part of the Sport Package. If the car has 16 inch wheels, it's likely it does not have it. If you want to verify StabiliTrak, call a dealer with the VIN. How do I know if a Cadillac CTS 2005 has StabiliTrak?Yes. There should be a Traction Control button or something of that nature somewhere near the radio.

If there is a button that says "TCS" or anything like that, it has StabiliTrak.

Or if you can't find it and you are still not sure if it has StabiliTrak or not. You can call the used dealer that's selling the vehicle and ask him/her.

My dad has a 2007 Ford Edge SEL and it has an optional Traction Control button underneath the radio. But it shows a picture of a car with trails behind the vehicle on the button.

So look for something like that as well.

What is the operating temp. for a 1997 Cadillac with the Northstar engine?

I am looking to buy a Cadillac That had over heating problems. There is now a switch that starts the cooling fan when the key is turned on. the engine get up to 190f* at idle. Is that the normal temp. What should the on board computer tell me? I have never owned a cadillac and don't know what to look for. The northstar is bad about blowing head gaskets. If it blew a gasket and then got hot and they fixed it may be ok for awhile.and then cause problems again. If something else caused it to get hot and only fixed that the head gaskets could be next. Its an expensive car to do engine work on. Also if its got a lot of miles on it they also start leaking oil. Its a common problem on them also. And the only way to fix the oil leak is to pull the engine out and tear it apart. So if its got a lot of miles on it I would pass a go to something else as repairs will eat you up..........md........EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT.......155000 miles is a lot I would look for something else as you will have problems sooner than later.........mdWhat is the operating temp. for a 1997 Cadillac with the Northstar engine?This car should run between 180 to 210 degrees, the fan will kick on around 190 to 195 degress to keep it in operating range.

The Buick is what we as car dealers call the poor mans Cadillac. It virtually the same car at a lower price. General Motors has always been that way where the other companies have a consolidated line lower end and higher end, GM has a policy that it should have multiple brands for different incomes.
