How do you Syphon Gas out of a 1987 Cadillac Allante'?

The Fuel Pump just went out on my 1987 Cadillac Allante' with a little over 3/4 tank of gas still in the tank. I have to drop the tank to change the fuel pump and want to remove most of the gas to make this job manageable.. There are some pumps that attach to drills, for like pumping water. I don't know if you can make an attachment to make it smaller and pump gas.

Or just buy an 12 volt electric fuel pump, for temp use. like this one.

It is 12 volt and can be hooked to the battery with wires, and a switch added on to one of the wires.

And hook it up to the gas line somewhere, use a long hose to dump into a can.

Check with auto parts stores but I think the pumps will probably cost a bit more.



Syphoning by hose by mouth, is dangerous. If you do try it, use a clear tygon tubing, 1/2 inch and around 8 foot long, to go down into the tank and then down into the can.



Watch the gas as it comes up, as you suck on the hose,. Once it starts down the hose outside the car, stop sucking, it will keep going. PUt the hose into the can. When can is full, just hold hose up

from can high enough so that is stops flowing, but still has gas in the line coming out of the car. Then put it back into the empty can, and it will start running again.

One note, however. Some cars have screens to stop hoses from entering the tank. Your car could possibly have one. They prevent stealing gas from your tank.
