It has a 4.6L engine, overheats occasionally. There is no odd smell from the exhaust pipe and no leakage anywhere. Pump works fine, antifreeze stays the same level. Could either the spark plugs, wires, or the ignition coil be the cause?

The valve clearance is a good idea. I did not think of that and if they have never been adjusted they will most certainly need it on that old of a car (not hard to do you can find instructions online, you will likely need a replacement gasket). Including adjustment of valve rocker clearance, here are some other ideas:
a) Stay away from gimmicks. The "turbo tornado," "fuel ionizers," oh and my favorite (not) the $20-$100 "chips" found on ebay etc. All total garbage. If it seems gimmicky then it is, dont waste your money.
1) Make it breathe better: For example a cheap aftermarket intake system from eBay. Preferably a Cold Air Intake [CAI] or a Short Ram Intake. CAI are typically more difficult to install than a Short Ram Intake but offer much better results because they draw cool air from outside of the engine bay as opposed to a Short Ram or stock intake system which sits next to the engine drawing hot air. Also on an old Cadillac probably has a huge engine bay so install might be easy as cake. Newer cars barely have any room in the engine bay this is what makes install of CAI tricky sometimes but your case might be an exception you might have no problem at all with all that room to route it. This option will add a couple horsepower and give your car a cool throaty sound too (slight, more when you open the throttle). Grab a filter cleaning kit from the auto parts store if you get this.
2) Make it breathe better, part 2: Exhaust components. If you car is exempt from emissions you "could" remove the catalytic converter(s) and replace them with a section of straight pipe (bad for the environment). This will usually require mechanical experience as well as a welder. Another option would be to buy an aftermarket exhaust but this is very expensive and not economical for the gains you will likely receive will be minimal (but the sound would be great!). You could also replace only the muffler (rather than the whole exhaust) with a performance high-flow muffler. The stock muffler is the second most restrictive component of the exhaust system, second to the cats (catalytic converter). Replacing the muffler and removing the cat would provide the most dramatic results of all the options in this answer, but make sure it wont fail inspection as a result (cats).
3) Tires. Other than the most obvious maintenance things like keeping your tires properly inflated and your air filter clean (which are important), there are a new product that just came around called high efficiency tires. These tires achieve less rolling resistance due to a harder rubber compound and special tread pattern. Supposedly they are pretty effective because GM is putting them on their new Chevy Cobalt "XFE" which is being sold as a high efficiency model. The valve clearance is a good idea. I did not think of that and if they have never been adjusted they will most certainly need it on that old of a car (not hard to do you can find instructions online, you will likely need a replacement gasket). Including adjustment of valve rocker clearance, here are some other ideas:
a) Stay away from gimmicks. The "turbo tornado," "fuel ionizers," oh and my favorite (not) the $20-$100 "chips" found on ebay etc. All total garbage. If it seems gimmicky then it is, dont waste your money.
1) Make it breathe better: For example a cheap aftermarket intake system from eBay. Preferably a Cold Air Intake [CAI] or a Short Ram Intake. CAI are typically more difficult to install than a Short Ram Intake but offer much better results because they draw cool air from outside of the engine bay as opposed to a Short Ram or stock intake system which sits next to the engine drawing hot air. Also on an old Cadillac probably has a huge engine bay so install might be easy as cake. Newer cars barely have any room in the engine bay this is what makes install of CAI tricky sometimes but your case might be an exception you might have no problem at all with all that room to route it. This option will add a couple horsepower and give your car a cool throaty sound too (slight, more when you open the throttle). Grab a filter cleaning kit from the auto parts store if you get this.
2) Make it breathe better, part 2: Exhaust components. If you car is exempt from emissions you "could" remove the catalytic converter(s) and replace them with a section of straight pipe (bad for the environment). This will usually require mechanical experience as well as a welder. Another option would be to buy an aftermarket exhaust but this is very expensive and not economical for the gains you will likely receive will be minimal (but the sound would be great!). You could also replace only the muffler (rather than the whole exhaust) with a performance high-flow muffler. The stock muffler is the second most restrictive component of the exhaust system, second to the cats (catalytic converter). Replacing the muffler and removing the cat would provide the most dramatic results of all the options in this answer, but make sure it wont fail inspection as a result (cats).
3) Tires. Other than the most obvious maintenance things like keeping your tires properly inflated and your air filter clean (which are important), there are a new product that just came around called high efficiency tires. These tires achieve less rolling resistance due to a harder rubber compound and special tread pattern. Supposedly they are pretty effective because GM is putting them on their new Chevy Cobalt "XFE" which is being sold as a high efficiency model. You have to pull out a check plug under the car, while it is running. If fluid comes out of the hole there is enough. The plug is a 10mm head and fine threads. If you need to add, there is a fill plug on top of the tranny it should be a RED plastic plug assessable from under hood. Get a LONG NARROW funnel.How do I check the transmission fluid in a 1998 cadillac catera?That particular model car has what's called "voice recognition" software built into the vehicular computer. To activate it (and by voice, check the transmission fluid), you need to stand at the front of your car and say loudly, "Car- activate voice recognition". If the computer isn't malfunctioning, you will get a response back from your car. It should be something to the effect of "Driver- authorization accepted". Once that's done, you have fully engaged the voice recognition software. Just talk normally to your car from here on out. But, you need to make sure you speak "Car-" before any commands. For example, "Car- check transmission fluid". You'll get a response that says something like "Good to go", or "Needs changed". I just got this car, and am getting ready to clean it. I'm not sure how often the previous owners cleaned it, or if they cleaned it correctly. It also has some pen marks. So how should I clean the leather?How should I clean the leather interior of my 1996 cadillac deville?Using household products and 'old wives' remedies are very short sighted when it comes to cleaning and caring for leather and can become very costly in the long run as problems they generally cause will be costly to put right. (although it does keep people like ourselves busy as we rush round fixing problems caused by using the wrong things!!!)
You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. (LTT Ultra Foam) With light coloured leather dye transfer from clothing can be a problem although using a good quality leather protector (LTT Ultra Protect) will help inhibit this.
DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish (pledge) contains silicones which will eventually destroy the finish on the leather. Most car cleaners also contain oils or waxes so should not be used as they leave residues on the surface of the leather which attract more dirt which eventually leads to cracking.
BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. This has been verified and proved to be the case. They are actually a very strong product and this is why they break down the finish. Leather is not like skin and should not be treated as such.
Saddle soap should never be usd on upholstery leather or garments it is meant for saddles which are very different from todays finished leathers.
A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. They are not cheap in the long run as you would need a lot to clean. A bottle of foam cleaner should do your car about 3-4 times.
Fairy liquid contains more salt these days to get dishes clean and this will break the finish down on your leather. This has been verified by the manufacturers (as with the baby wipes).
Magic Erasers should not be used unless you are going to renew the finish on you r leather. We have tested these recently and they sand away the top finish on the leather.
You should also follow cleaning with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time. Conditioners are totally unnecessary and only a product push by manufacturers.
Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.
It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this. The only 'moisturizer' a leather needs is from water.
For general leather maintenance there is a brand new product on the market called Ultra Maintian specifically formulated for leather car interiors. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your leather has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.
Using incorrect care products is usually the cause of deterioration in the leather as unfortunately most car care products contain waxes and oils or silicones which do not do the leather any good.
Ink is not a cleaning problem once the ink has been on there a while and many of the tips you will be given on here will also damage the finish on the leather whilst removing the ink (if they do)

A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. They are not cheap in the long run as you would need a lot to clean. A bottle of foam cleaner should do your car about 3-4 times.
Fairy liquid contains more salt these days to get dishes clean and this will break the finish down on your leather. This has been verified by the manufacturers (as with the baby wipes).
Magic Erasers should not be used unless you are going to renew the finish on you r leather. We have tested these recently and they sand away the top finish on the leather.
You should also follow cleaning with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time. Conditioners are totally unnecessary and only a product push by manufacturers.
Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.
It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this. The only 'moisturizer' a leather needs is from water.
For general leather maintenance there is a brand new product on the market called Ultra Maintian specifically formulated for leather car interiors. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your leather has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.
Using incorrect care products is usually the cause of deterioration in the leather as unfortunately most car care products contain waxes and oils or silicones which do not do the leather any good.
Ink is not a cleaning problem once the ink has been on there a while and many of the tips you will be given on here will also damage the finish on the leather whilst removing the ink (if they do)

I just had to have a brand new alternator and battery (best one sold - or at least most expensive - at Sears Auto which was the only shop open this weekend when car broke down). At night with lights on the battery ranges from 11.8 volts when at idle to 12.5 while driving. During the day the battery ranges from 12.2 volts to 13.1 volts. I've been told this is too low (especially the night voltage) with brand new alternator %26amp; battery. The new cd player should have rca outs (pre-amp outs). The converter works. It simply de-amps the signal coming from your radio before it goes into the factory amp. Or you could just bypass and install new speakers.

The PROM in the BCM retains the total original mileage for a car. The digital cluster will display what the BCM computer tells it to display from memory.
CLUSTER, Analog - There are three “different” designs.. 1987's did not come from the factory with an analog cluster. 1988' and 89's used the same analog cluster, which will fit 1987's just fine. 1990 through 1992 used the same analog cluster, which is different from the ‘88/’89 unit. Lastly, 1993 analog clusters are unique to 1993 Allante's, and they are different from all earlier models. The analog cluster has a mechanical odometer, which advances with the car's forward motion, and has no way of going back other than mechanical tampering. The analog ignores the PROM in the BCM which continues to retains the total original mileage for a car in memory. There are different part numbers for the different clusters. That's the easiest way to tell. But beyond that, the '93 analog is easy to ID since the tach range is higher than for the earlier models. The way to tell the earlier two models apart is through the warning lights section. The 1988/89 does not have traction control or air bag warning light like the 1990/92 analog.

Who thinks Cadillac is the standard of the world? It was and is currently their marketing slogan, but on average I think they make very standard cars, not above a honda accord or a taurus. Also in order to be the "standard of the world" people out of america would have to buy Cadillac, which they dont. Did you also switch the lock cylinder, or are you trying to start it with the key from the donor column? You may have missed those wires. Stereo shops can usually fix this issue, because they often install aftermarket remote start, and the only way I know of to get around the system is to either permanently install a matching resistor or install some kind of bypass box. I had them do it on a 1996 Monte Carlo, I think it was like $30, installed. Took care of it killing the engine when I would remotely start it, sounds to me like that may take care of your issue.raclette argus

How much would a Cadillac Dealer replace an alternator for in a 2006 Cadillac CTS V?
My car is making a whining noise that gets louder with RPM increase. I believe I narrowed it down to it being the alternator bearings, so I'm assuming they would probably just replace the whole thing. 2000 Cadillac Seville Air conditioner does not work?
I have a 2000 cadillac seville sls that i bought about 3 months ago, they told me the blend door actuator needed fixed on the passenger side, but now the drivers side is blowing hot air, and no cold air anywhere, and it has refrigerant. What do you think this is, and is it going to be expensive to fix?2000 Cadillac Seville Air conditioner does not work?Brobably a bad baffle servo, blown fuse or baffle air system leak. If I am not mistaken, those cars have vacuum controlled baffles. Whenyou select heat or cool an electrical signal is sent to the vacuum baffle system which then re-directs the air in the lines to open or close baffles within your heater box. If one of those lines comes off, developes a crack or breaks then there won't be enough vacuum or air pressure to move the baffles. Turn your ignition on but don't start your car. Switch from hot to cold on your controls and listen. You should be able to hear the hiss and your baffles moving within the system in your dash. Sometimes they creak or clunk into place. If all you hear is a hiss and no other noise then you mayhave a leak. Real ***** to fix, you have to tear your entire dash out....

Is the heads off a 350 big block Chevy compatible with a Cadillac 500?
My brother has a 75' Chevrolet Cheyenne that he put a 350 in. A couple of days ago he noticed that the block had busted through a oil port and water jacket. How do i take out the drivers side panel on a 2000 Cadillac Deville DTS?
I own a 2000 Cadillac Deville DTS and i have a slight problem. On the drivers side the frontal door where the window is, it just suddenly stopped working. At the moment the window is down and it wont go back up. I know how to fix the window itself but the problem is i cant seem to get through the panel because i cant find the screws or bolts to screw off the panel. of a thumb print.
I gave the man the insurance info and such, and later the
insurance company said, "The damage was so minor it
was a waste to try to fix it....the insurance office was located at
a auto body place and the body repairman said it was a waste
and pointed out to the guy that the bumper of a car is design to
protect the car, and told him the damage in his professional
opinion was not considered damaged.

I've been browsing cars lately trying to find one to buy.
Since I don't know anything about cars... i was wondering if:
say there is like a 97 or so cadillac or mercedes but it has like 150,000 or so miles or more on it. would it not even be worth buying because it would break down easily or would it be a somewhat good investment because it is made by mercedes-benz or cadillac
